Using voice commands to make and receive Zoom Phone calls

Zoom Phone supports hands-free calling through Siri on iOS, allowing you to place and answer calls without touching your device. This feature is designed for scenarios where you can't interact with your screen, such as driving, or when your hands are occupied at work. Voice commands route calls through Zoom Phone instead of Zoom Meetings or your cellular line. The feature works with Apple CarPlay for a hands-free driving experience.

Requirements for using voice commands with Zoom Phone

• Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise account
• Either a Zoom Workplace license with Phone included, or a standalone Zoom Phone calling plan
• Zoom Workplace mobile app for iOS: Global minimum version or higher
• Ask Siri in your iOS device settings enabled
• Hands-free calling enabled by your Zoom account admin
• Contacts you want to call saved in your device address book

Limitations for using voice commands with Zoom Phone

• Contact disambiguation without CarPlay: When multiple contacts match your voice command and you're not using CarPlay, Siri displays the options on screen but does not read them aloud. You must look at your screen or speak the contact's full name. This limitation does not apply when using CarPlay—Siri reads all matching contacts aloud over your car's audio system.
• Regional limitation: Siri-based call features are not available in mainland China due to CallKit being disabled in that region.
• The hands-free calling feature is only available for iOS. Hands-free calling with Android Auto is planned for a later release.

How to manage outbound call routing between Zoom Phone and Zoom Meetings

Voice commands can route to either Zoom Phone or Zoom Meetings, depending on your Zoom Workplace mobile app setting.

Note: If your account only has Zoom Meetings enabled, voice commands always route to Zoom Meetings.

1. Sign in to the Zoom Workplace mobile app.
2. In the top-left corner, tap your profile picture or initials.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap General.
5. Under When using Siri, place calls with, select Zoom Meetings or Zoom Phone.

How to place calls with voice commands

You can start an outbound Zoom Phone call using Siri without opening the Zoom Workplace mobile app.

1. Activate Siri by saying "Hey Siri", or by holding down the side button or Home button, depending on your iPhone model.
   Note: Your iPhone must be unlocked to place calls.
2. Say a command such as "Hey Siri, call John Smith on Zoom" or "Hey Siri, call John Smith using Zoom."
   Note: Say "Zoom" rather than "Zoom Phone" as Siri recognizes the app as "Zoom." If Siri says it can't find the app, say "I mean Zoom" and Siri will learn the association over time.

How to answer or decline calls with voice commands

When you receive an incoming Zoom Phone call, you can accept or decline it using voice commands if you have Announce Calls enabled in your iOS settings.

Note: You cannot manually activate Siri to answer an incoming call. This is an iOS platform limitation.

Answer or decline announced calls

When Siri automatically announces an incoming Zoom Phone call through your AirPods or CarPlay, respond with voice commands:

• Say "Answer" or "Accept" to accept the call
• Say "Decline" or "Reject" to decline it

How to resolve multiple contact matches

If your voice command matches more than one contact, your voice assistant's behavior depends on whether you're using CarPlay. With CarPlay, Siri reads all matching contacts aloud so you can select one entirely by voice. Without CarPlay, Siri displays the matches on screen but does not read them aloud—you'll need to look at your screen or say the contact's full name to clarify.

1. Say a command to call a contact, for example, "Hey Siri, call John Smith on Zoom."
   If multiple contacts match and you're using CarPlay, Siri will read the options aloud, such as "Which John Smith? John Smith from Sales or John Smith from Support?" Without CarPlay, the options will appear on your screen only.
2. Respond with the contact you want to reach, for example, "Sales."
   Siri will place the call to the contact you selected.

How to use voice commands with Apple CarPlay

1. Connect your iPhone to your car's Apple CarPlay-compatible infotainment system and set up CarPlay.
2. Use Siri to place or accept a Zoom Phone call, for example, "Hey Siri, call John Smith on Zoom."
   If multiple contacts match, Siri will read all options aloud through your car speakers, allowing you to select the correct contact entirely by voice.
   Note: You can press your car's steering wheel voice control button, if equipped, to prompt Siri. You can also answer and hang up incoming calls using your car's steering wheel answer and end buttons, if equipped.
