Zoom provides up-to-date release notes for the Zoom clients and plugins for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). These releases are based on the standard desktop client, including most features supported by VDI, and this article contains information about recent changes specific to the VDI, including new and enhanced features, updates to existing features, and bug fixes. In addition, you can find information about upcoming changes (if available) and see a recent history of updates made.

  • Save Screenshots as Files and in Clipboard
    In version 6.2.11, a keyboard shortcut (CTRL + T) was added to take a screenshot to drop into chat. To avoid issues where the chat was closed, screenshots are always saved to the Zoom directory in Documents and kept in the clipboard to paste optionally.
  • Pull Opt Out configuration using WMI
    The setting on the thin client for Opt Out has been added to the WMI class for PluginInfo.
  • Policy to disable an MS Teams check related to HID
    A new policy named CheckHIDControl has been added. Adding the policy and setting the value to 1 will disable the check for the msteams.exe process and will enable HID device sharing. Learn more about HID support and options to control checks for the VDI client.

  • Limit the number of Custom Filter Files created by custom apps
    Zoom Apps that create custom filters are now limited to only ten filters before older filters are overwritten. This change is to avoid excessive filters from being created for updates, such as displaying the current time. This issue addresses a change made in release 6.2.10.
  • Fix from standard Windows client to address unresponsive session
    An issue initially reported for the standard Zoom Workplace client was fixed in release 6.3.0. The same problem was found to also affect the VDI Zoom Workplace client and could result in multiple users temporarily freezing during a Zoom meeting. 
  • Zoom for Workplace VDI client crashing during meetings
    An issue has been fixed with the video codec, causing the Zoom for Workplace VDI client to crash during meetings. 
• Windows fixes
  • Use case insensitive check for Universal Plugin keyword check
    The Windows Universal Installer has been modified to use a case-insensitive check for existing keywords when installing.
  • Change to remove multiple dump files
    A change was made to the sequence of events that process the collection and removal of log files to ensure the operation to remove a directory was completed before processing the next directory. While the issue always existed, the problem only occurred when a directory contained very small files.
  • Runtime dll missing when launching Zoom Plugin
    Changes have been made to the plugin management to include the runtime dll within the plugin installation. 
  • AI Companion setting not being followed
    An issue has been fixed with the Allow users to ask AI Companion questions about the meeting, sub-setting Share Access with not being recognized when in a meeting.
  • Skip DLL signature check for APP-V deployment
    Changes have been made when installing the Zoom for Workplace VDI client, signature checks for dll files loaded from App-V will no longer be necessary. 
  • Roaming file size keeps increasing with corrupted DB file
    An issue has been fixed with the corrupted DB files, causing the roaming profile folder for the Zoom for Workplace VDI client to become excessively large.

    Installation changes required to support the new Omnissa Horizon client have been added for Windows, Linux (Ubuntu only), and MacOS in this release. The VDI Zoom Workplace client has also been updated for the branding change to Omnissa Horizon.
  • Support for Screen Capture keyboard shortcut
    Screen capture for VDI has been updated to support using the keyboard shortcut (CTRL + T) at any time.
  • Multi-share pop-out tab support for single and multiple monitors
    Updates to the standard Windows client (v6.2.0) have been incorporated into this release to support opening a share session as a new window pop-out.

    The name of the application has been changed to Zoom VDI Workplace.
• Windows fixes
  • VDI Plugin Mgmt updates pop up UAC dialog for 64-bit installation
    An issue was discovered where the service that provides administrator privileges when installing the VDI plugin (when using VDI Plugin Management) was no longer running after a reboot of the 6.2.10 or 6.2.11 release. The issue was traced to changes made in the standard client and the fix has been incorporated into this release.
  • Optimization for Webview cache files
    Customer deployments where the %APPDATA% directory for the virtual machine was moved to a server reported performance issues resulting from the number of temporary webview cache files being written to the server. A change has been made in this release to use %LOCALAPPDATA% for Webview cache files instead.
• Linux fixes
  • Share content lost after resizing when using CWA 2408 with eLux
    An issue where the share session was no longer displayed after resizing an upscaled and windowed Citrix session has been corrected. The problem occurs when using Citrix Workplace client version 2408 or greater with eLux.
  • Desktop freezes after ending a remote control session
    A problem has been addressed where a Dell ThinOS client's virtual desktop would freeze after ending a remote control session with another participant.
• MacOS fixes
  • Potential issue where Citrix Workspace could hang when disconnecting
    An issue has been corrected where the Citrix Workspace client could hang when attempting to disconnect.
• Amazon fixes
  • Blurry video when moving meeting to a different monitor
    A problem has been addressed where the meeting video could appear slightly blurry when the window was moved to another monitor.
  • Video lost when moving to a different monitor
    Improvements have been made to tracking how multiple monitors are accounted for. The changes correct an issue where dragging a meeting window to a new monitor could result in lost video.
• HP Anyware fixes
  • Updates for Ubuntu/HP ThinPro plugin support
    Changes have been made to address reported issues when using the recent Linux plugins added for the HP Anyware platform. These include an issue where a black video is displayed after disconnecting and reconnecting without exiting the HP Anyware client.

  • "Discover what's new" link
    For customers that allow virtual desktop users to "Check for updates" for the VDI Zoom meeting client, a link to the associated release notes for the VDI release is now available to open the release notes in a browser.
  • VDI Plugin Management Policies in Zoom Device Management
    Policy management for VDI Plugin Management policies is now available in Zoom Device Management (ZDM). Customers interested in using ZDM to manage their VDI Plugin Management will need to update to 6.2.10 before using ZDM to manage their VDI Plugin Management policies.
  • Zoom Mesh test added to VDI Zoom Workplace client Diagnostics
    The ability to run tests from within the VDI Zoom Workplace client for Zoom Mesh has been added to the Diagnostics options.
  • Call status added to WMI data
    WMI queries now include call status to indicate if the user is in a Zoom or Contact Center meeting or phone call.
  • Dialog customization for Opt Out dialog text
    For customers that enable the "Opt Out" policy (EnableVDIPluginAutoUpdateOptOut), the dialog text displayed for the Opt Out confirmation can be customized using the policy VDIPluginOptOutDescription.
  • Rename "Screen Share Offload" to "VDI Share Mode"
    We've changed the VDI tab under Statistics to use the term "VDI Share Mode" to display how share offload is configured.
  • Personalized Audio Enhancements 
    Changes made for the standard client to provide users with more guidance to enable or disable Personalized Audio based on audio detection have been added to the VDI client and plugin.
  • System Audio Enhancement control
    A new option labeled "Windows system audio enhancements" was added for the standard Zoom Workplace client, which is also supported for the VDI Zoom Workplace client and the new VDI Plugin. Options for "Auto, On, and Off" under Audio settings ->Advanced provides users with the ability to follow the system settings for the selected device or enable/disable the feature from within Zoom. Disabling system audio enhancements can be useful to address unwanted noise suppression, such as allowing music to be sent as part of the call.
  • Improvements for "I am away" and "I am back" experience
    Support has been added in the VDI Zoom Workplace client and VDI Plugin for a new improvement to the standard Zoom Workplace client. When selecting the option to display "I am away", audio and video are automatically turned off. When changing the indication to show "I am back", audio and video are restored to their previous state.
  • Broadcast host speaking (mic) from the main session to all breakout rooms 
    The Breakout Room host can now use a hotkey or UI element to send their microphone audio from the main session to all breakout rooms simultaneously.
  • Allow Users to Turn on Recording without Host
    Meeting hosts now have an administrator setting that can be enabled to allow participants to start recording a meeting without requiring the admin to be present.
• MacOS and Windows Features
  • Diagnostic support for the VDI Plugin Management app
    The VDI Plugin Management application, optionally installed with the MacOS and Windows VDI plugin, has been updated with a diagnostics option. Users can now check their VDI plugin installation and collect logs using the VDI Plugin Management application to provide more information and support when troubleshooting. For Windows users with Administrator privileges, the option to Repair can be used to run the MSI repair option.
• Linux Features
  • HP ThinPro and Ubuntu VDI Plugin for HP Anyware
    VDI Plugins for Ubuntu and HP ThinPro now support the HP Anyware platform.
  • Screenshot optimization for Dell ThinOS
    Support for the screenshot feature has been added for the Dell ThinOS platform. 
• Azure/Windows 365 Features
  • Remote Control using Share Offload
    Changes were added in this release for the Azure/Windows 365 platform to support the use of Remote Control when share sessions are redirected to the VDI Plugin (Share Offload). Previously, requests for remote control required disabling Share Offload to provide access to the user's mouse and keyboard.
• ChromeOS features
  • Support for Pin and Multi-Pin
    The ability to pin one or more participants during a meeting has been added for the ChromeOS VDI Plugin solution.

Resolved Issues

Note: All fixes for previous patch releases 6.1.11, 6.1.12, and 6.1.13 have been incorporated into the 6.2.10 release.

• General fixes
  • Bluetooth HID support 
    Improvements have been made for Bluetooth HID devices used with VDI. The improvements add support for using HID controls to accept an incoming call/meeting request and for mute/unmute. Please note that support for ending a meeting or hanging up a call using a HID button is currently not supported for VDI. Leave meeting HID controls are also not supported for USB HID devices.
  • Potential fatal error when waiting room video fails to load
    An issue has been addressed where the waiting room video could fail because of network conditions, and clicking "retry" would cause a crash.
  • Profile images may not update dynamically after logging in
    Changes were made in the VDI Plugin to dynamically update the user's profile image if they join a meeting without logging in and then log in while still in the meeting. The problem affected all previous releases.
  • HID support when running on a physical machine
    For customers who install the VDI Zoom Workplace client on physical machines, a change was made to provide HID support when running Zoom without a remote connection.
  • Concurrent Meeting support 
    An issue has been fixed where starting a second meeting would stop the optimization of the first meeting through the VDI Plugin. The problem was traced to a change made in 6.1.12.
  • Nametag displayed when the video is minimized
    The nametag was previously displayed on top of the toolbar when minimizing the video. This release now displays the nametag under the toolbar.
  • Zoom Mail correction for case-sensitive check for From address 
    A hotfix from the standard client to correct an issue where forwarding an email failed if the From address contained both upper and lower case letters has been added to the VDI release.
  • Zoom Mail fix for editing the original content when forwarding
    This release contains a hotfix from the standard client for Zoom Mail to address an issue where the original content could not be edited when forwarding the email.
  • Toolbar will always be displayed when minimizing video and sharing
    To minimize video redrawing in the VDI client, the option "always show meeting controls" is force enabled on. When minimizing video, an issue has been addressed where the toolbar was hidden.
• Windows fixes
  • Logi Dock Video Mute not working
    The Logi Dock option to mute video has been fixed for the standard Windows Zoom Workplace client and also confirmed as fixed when using the VDI Zoom Workplace client.
• ChromeOS fixes
  • Black regions are displayed on the screen after the meeting ends
    A problem has been corrected where the web view used for the meeting video could display a black region after the end of the meeting.
  • Incorrect speaker selection used for Zoom Phone
    An issue has been corrected where the wrong speaker could be used for audio during a Zoom Phone call if there were multiple speakers that could be selected. This problem was introduced in 6.1.10.
• Azure/Windows 365 fixes
  • Zoom Workplace Calendar displays the wrong time
    Changes have been made in both the standard Zoom Workplace app and the VDI Zoom Workspace app to correct an issue where the API request to get time zone information could fail.
• MacOS fixes
  • VDI Plugin not connecting when using Catalina
    Changes made when creating the MacOS VDI plugin package using a newer release of the packaging software were discovered to introduce a connection issue for any combination of the MaxOS VDI Plugin version 5.17.10 or above and a release of the Mac OS version 10.15.7 or greater. The problem has been corrected in this release and will be provided in a patch release for the previous 6.1.10 branch in the future.
  • Changes for the new Citrix Viewer toolbar in release 2409
    This release has modifications to ensure that the video does not cover the new toolbar design in the Citrix Viewer app released in version 24.09.

Several cosmetic improvements were also added to improve the raised hand graphic and medium-size reactions and provide a consistent tooltip when switching between share sessions.
  • Desktop freezes after ending a remote control session
    A problem has been addressed where a Dell ThinOS client's virtual desktop would freeze after ending a remote control session with another participant.
• MacOS fixes
  • Potential issue where Citrix Workspace could hang when disconnecting
    An issue has been corrected where the Citrix Workspace client could hang when attempting to disconnect.
  • VDI Plugin not connecting when using Catalina
    A connection issue for combinations of the MaxOS VDI Plugin version 5.17.10 or above with a release of the Mac OS version 10.15.7 or greater required a package update. The problem was corrected in the 6.2.10 release and is available in this 6.1.15 patch release as well.

  • Remove cleanup process for roaming data 
    For customers using an external drive to store AppData\Roaming, the operation to remove the older emoji data was time-consuming. While we investigate ways to improve efficiency, this release removes the delete operation to avoid the additional time associated with removing the unused files.

  • Clean up both old and new log locations for roaming data 
    A change for the roaming data location was made in release 6.1.10 to move data from AppData\Roaming to AppData\Local. This release updates logging configuration options to automatically check both locations.
  • Background color missing in Outlook Calendar 
    When integrating with the Outlook Calendar, the background color was missing when the current user created a new entry. This issue has been fixed in version 6.2.5 of the standard Windows Zoom Workplace client. The same change has been applied to this patch release for VDI.
  • Potential crash condition for the VDI Zoom Workplace client 
    An issue has been fixed where the VDI Zoom Workplace client could terminate when launched. The problem was introduced in release 6.1.12.
  • Frozen share session video
    A problem has been corrected for accounts that enable the new AV1 codec. In some cases a share session could be sent using the AV1 codec to an older VDI Plugin which resulted in the video freezing because the new codec type could not be decoded.
• Windows fixes
  • Virtual Background support for Intel® Core™ 7 processor 150U 
    The VDI Plugin has been updated to enable virtual background support for computers with a motherboard based on the Intel® Core™ 7 processor 150U.
  • VDI Plugin Management Auto Update Repair Mode Loop 
    An issue has been addressed where a damaged VDI Plugin installation could enter into an endless repair loop. 
  • Active Speaker Nametag not updating in Webinar and Events 
    A problem has been corrected where the nametag for the active speaker was either not updating or only updating after a long delay when session branding nametags were being used.
• Mac fixes
  • SSL verification update when redirecting to another domain 
    A change has been added to handle SSL verifications for MacOS when a download URL redirects to another domain. This change will ensure a future change from Zoom.us to Zoom.com will work with our VDI Plugin Management solution.

  • Account settings to disable editing/deleting message
    This release supports new account controls to provide administrators with the ability to disable the option to edit or delete messages in Team Chat.
• Windows fixes
  • OpenSSL Control Flow Guard
    Changes have been made to address an issue where the 64-bit Zoom Meeting client (both standard and VDI builds) would exit after signing in. This fix provides a solution that keeps Control Flow Guard enabled. Customers affected by this issue that are unable to update can disable Control Flow Guard for earlier builds by following the instructions in this article.
  • Prevent VDI Plugin from loading during an update
    To avoid possible race conditions where a virtual desktop session is started during a VDI Plugin installation, a change has been made to disable the VDI plugin at the start of an installation or uninstall.
  • Auto-update support when %appdata% path is on a network drive  
    An issue has been corrected where auto-update for the VDI Zoom Meeting client would fail if the %appdata% directory pointed to a network drive that required user credentials.
• Amazon fixes
  • Video rendered on wrong monitor when using multiple monitors 
    An issue has been corrected where offloaded video could be rendered on the wrong monitor when using full screen multi monitor mode.
  • Support for command line option to skip rebooting when installing
    For customers using the MSI command line option "MSIRestartManagerControl=Disable" changes were made to allow the administrator to apply reboot and complete the installation.
    Note: This also applies to the HP Anyware platform.

Note: This is a patch release that provides an update for only the ChromeOS VDI Plugin. The update is automatically deployed when using our ChromeOS solution.     A ChromeOS issue was reported where the video began to lag during a large meeting. The problem has been addressed by changing the logic used to request which video resolutions to receive.

  • Zoom Mesh for Meetings
    Zoom introduces Zoom Mesh for meetings, allowing account owners and admins to optimize Internet bandwidth consumption during meetings. Similar to mesh for webinars, admins can control mesh for meetings through separate tabs in the menu. They can duplicate settings from webinars to meetings or vice versa and gradually enable mesh for meetings using Account and Group level settings. Meeting participants can join the mesh as parents or children, request specific video streams, and optimize downstream media delivery, reducing bandwidth usage and enhancing the meeting experience.. Changed to: Zoom introduces Zoom Mesh for meetings, allowing account owners and admins to optimize Internet bandwidth consumption during meetings. Similar to mesh for webinars, admins can control mesh for meetings through separate tabs in the menu. They can duplicate most settings from mesh for webinars to mesh meetings or vice versa and gradually enable mesh for meetings using Account and Group level settings. Meeting participants can join the mesh for meetings as parents or children to receive downstream media from cloud or other clients to reduce downstream bandwidth usage and enhancing the meeting experience.
  • Zoom Network Connectivity Tool
    Support for the Zoom Connectivity Tool has been expanded with additional coverage for Zoom VDI Users. The Network Connectivity Tool allows users to run a series of tests on their network connection, providing insights into any issues they may be experiencing. Logs can be exported to be provided to Zoom Support for more severe issues and troubleshooting, as well as the ability to run the network test on a specific server URL. For VDI plugins, the option to test applies to only Mac and Windows in this release.
  • Store emoji files in Appdata\local
    To improve performance when using a roaming profile, the emoji files have been moved from AppData\Roaming to Appdata\local
  • Enhanced visual effects and background controls
    Zoom is enhancing the Meetings experience by consolidating visual effect settings, making it easier for users to adjust their video appearance and backgrounds. Now, users can adjust lighting, add background blurs, virtual backgrounds, and more from one place.
  • Multi-share - View newest share tab
    The Multi-Share feature allows participants to share multiple content items and types simultaneously in a meeting. This capability benefits users by organizing each shared item into tabs, making it easier to follow along with the meeting activities. With the latest enhancement to this feature, participants can be directed to the newest share tab so they stay up-to-date with the meeting's flow.
  • Smart Speaker Tag
    When a user joins a meeting that includes a Zoom Room user that has Smart Speaker Tag enabled, the speaker names are displayed in the captions/transcript to indicate which user is speaking.

  • Unable to drag minimized meeting window after CWA 2405 update
    Version 2405 of the Citrix Workspace App required a change to support dragging the minimized meeting window.
  • Mirror my video not displaying correctly in Multi-speaker view
    This release fixes an issue where checking the option "Mirror my video" in Video settings was not correctly sending mirrored video in multi-speaker view.
  • Transparency not displayed when switching to Multi-speaker view
    A problem has been addressed when configuring a meeting to use wallpaper and the option for transparency. The configuration displayed correctly in gallery view but not when switching to multi-speaker view.
  • Bandwidth limits not applied for breakout rooms and greenroom
    An issue where bandwidth limits were not applied when the client was in a breakout room or the backstage/greenroom has been fixed for the standard client and the changes made for the VDI client and plugins as well. The issue has existed since breakout rooms and backstage/greenroom support was added.
  • Display 6 small video participants when in Speaker mode and Maximized or Full Screen
    The number of displayed participants in the video strip above the speaker when in Speaker View is constrained to 6 participants to be both consistent with the standard client and minimize resources required.
• MacOS fixes
  • Omit VDI Plugin Management if newer version is installed
    Previously, if the option to install VDI Plugin Management was checked but a newer version was already installed, the package would display an error message. This has been changed and if a newer release of VDI Plugin Management has been installed, the installer does not attempt to install the older version and does not display an error.

  The Zoom app is now named Zoom VDI Workplace, to align the app name with Zoom's extensive product offerings that are designed to help users reimagine the way they collaborate. Users updating to this version will see the new Zoom Workplace branding in the app and as the app name in their app directory.
• Block VDI Plugin updates for Windows 7/8/8.1
  Windows OS platforms 7, 8, and 8.1 are no longer supported. Beginning with this 6.0.10 release, VDI Plugin Management will block updating an older plugin to a newer release if the device is running on an older unsupported platform.
• Update VDILogTool to notify when plugin logs are missing and show log level
  A notification has been added to the VDILogTool to notify the user if they are using the option to collect logs, but no logs from the plugin are found, and the log level is displayed as missing logs (usually because the log level is too low).
• Change the logging path for debug log files
  The log path has been changed from %appdata%/ZoomVDI/logs to %localappdata%/ZoomVDI/logs on the Windows platform. The VDILogTool will check both the new path and the previous path when collecting logs to continue to support older releases.
• Disable Spatial Audio for VDI
  Additional work is required to support Spatial Audio in the VDI plugin and the feature has been disabled.
• Disable Dynamic Emoji Video Effect for VDI

    The appearance of the Zoom desktop app is overhauled with a new color scheme and icons. These color schemes, including bloom (blue), agave (green), and rose (red), are available when running the desktop app in the light mode and can be chosen through app settings. These color themes are applied to the app's global navigation bar and the in-meeting window. Please note that color themes require a new 6.0.10 VDI Plugin.
  • Persistent More menu and global navigation behavior in the Zoom Workplace app
    In the global navigation toolbar on the Zoom Workplace desktop app, users can click any item in the More menu to automatically pin it to the toolbar to keep frequently used products available for quick access. Additionally, if users attempt to move all product tabs into the More menu, they will be notified that at least one tab must remain active.
  • macOS proxy support for VDI Plugin Management
    When using VDI Plugin Management for macOS clients, support has been added to allow the VDI plugin package to be downloaded through a proxy.
  • Policy to force silent updates for the VDI Plugin
    The policy called ForceSilentVDIPluginUpdate provides administrators with the option to detect an outdated or missing plugin. It also provides the option to download and install the required VDI Plugin after the user disconnects from their virtual desktop without prompting or informing the user that a new VDI Plugin is being downloaded and installed.
  • Support custom text for VDI Plugin Management dialogs
    A policy called VDIPluginAutoUpdateDescription provides administrators with the ability to customize the dialog text in the VDI Plugin Management prompt dialog for missing or out-of-date plugins.
  • VDI Win Plugin support for ARM64
    A new VDI media plugin provides native ARM64 support for devices running on ARM64 processors.
  • VDI plugin support for the new eLux 7 release
    The new VDI plugin supports eLux 7. This will ensure full compatibility and optimal performance with the latest version of eLux. The existing VDI plugin for eLux 6 will continue to be maintained. This ongoing support will ensure stability and compatibility for users who have not yet upgraded to eLux 7.
  • Additional policies for Zoom Device Management (ZDM)
    The following policies have been added for ZDM: DisableMMRDirect, DisableUDPBridge, DisableICABridge, DisableMMRDirect_Phone, DisableUDPBridge_Phone, DisableChannelBridge_Phone.
  • Language translation for the Windows Universal Installer
    Starting with this 6.0.10 release the Windows Universal Installer has been updated to translate the installer into all supported languages.
• Meeting/webinar features
  • Improved collaboration with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive files
    Sharing files from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive is updated to make it easier to select files and share them for in-meeting viewing or collaboration. First, the third-party service's native file picker will be used to select a file, instead of the Zoom file picker. After selecting a file from Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, choosing Collaborate (which will grant participants file editing permissions), invites all participants to join in collaborating on the document using their system browsers.
  • Updated icons and meeting visuals
    The in-meeting experience is updated with new icons and other visual changes to menus and toolbars.
  • Personalized in-meeting toolbars
    Zoom Meeting participants can personalize the in-meeting toolbar by dragging and dropping to add, move, and remove meeting feature options to suit their needs. Buttons can be reordered, or dragged to/from the More menu. Personalizations for signed-in users will be synced across their desktop experiences. Additionally, the default in-meeting toolbar has fewer buttons and consolidated many options under the More menu to support improved ease of use. The Audio, Video, More, and End options cannot be removed from the in-meeting toolbar. Additionally, the floating screen-sharing toolbar is updated and simplified to make it easier to use and more focused on core tasks while presenting during a meeting.
  • Customized Webinar Waiting Rooms
    Users can customize the waiting room experience for their webinars by applying their own branding with custom messages and videos that can play automatically for attendees. VDI participants will be able to experience the customizations by upgrading to the 6.0.10 VDI Zoom Meeting client and VDI plugin.
  • Portrait lighting for video
    The portrait lighting setting allows Zoom to dim your background while brightening you in the foreground, making you stand out even more in your meetings. This is available through in-app video settings and has hardware prerequisites similar to using virtual backgrounds without a green screen. This feature requires updating the VDI Plugin to version 6.0.10 or greater.
    Note: This feature is not currently supported in the Linux VDI plugins.
• Meeting features
  • Multi-speaker video layout
    The multi-speaker video layout helps provide meeting participants a more engaging experience, dynamically adapting to current speakers by highlighting and enlarging their video tiles over others, while still providing a view of other participants in a smaller gallery view below. This will also be available when viewing shared content in side-by-side mode, with the speakers being more prominently displayed next to the shared screen or app window. This feature requires updating the VDI Plugin to version 6.0.10 or greater.
  • Meeting wallpapers
    Meeting hosts can customize the wallpaper in their meeting, adding more color and customization to their meeting view. The host or co-host can choose from preset images provided by Zoom or their account admins. With a selection made, they can also adjust how much to blend the participant videos with the wallpaper image. Admins can control the use of this at the account level, as well as provide additional default images, which are available to the host and co-host during meetings. Images uploaded through the web portal by admins must be JPG/JPEG or 24-bit PNG with a maximum size of 15 MB. The recommended resolution is 1920x1080px. This feature requires updating the VDI Plugin to version 6.0.10 or greater.
  • Multi-share - View the newest share tab
    The multi-share feature allows participants to share multiple content items and types simultaneously in a meeting. This capability benefits users by organizing each shared item into tabs, making it easier to follow along with the meeting activities. With the latest enhancement to this feature, participants will be directed to the newest share tab so they can stay up-to-date with the meeting.
  • Personalized speech denoise
    To provide the best audio quality possible for Zoom Meetings in busy environments, users can configure Personalized Denoise in the Zoom desktop app audio settings directly, which will capture and analyze a clip of your audio from meetings to differentiate your voice from and suppress background noise in meetings. Zoom does not receive or retain this clip or analysis, which stays on your device and is only used for noise suppression in meetings you join. This feature requires updating the VDI Plugin to version 6.0.10 or greater.
  • Disable and hide Auto-Accept for Remote Control
    A configuration has been added to web settings to provide administrators with the option to disable the user's ability to select auto-accept for remote control and to hide that feature in the user interface.

  • Preview virtual background selections
    Selecting a virtual background from the settings pane will display the selected background combined with the user's camera feed. Previously, virtual background changes were only displayed while in a meeting. This is a new change for ChromeOS added in this release.
  • Increase supported video resolution
    Enabling the HD checkbox in Video Settings will send a higher-resolution video stream from the ChromeOS device to other participants. The result will depend on the device where the ChromeOS Plugin is running and if another participant's view would benefit from higher resolution, such as viewing the ChromeOS participant. This change is for the ChromeOS plugin only.

    An issue has been addressed where changing Audio Settings during a meeting for the Use separate audio device to play ringtone simultaneously option was not persistent and would revert to the setting state before the meeting. This issue was reported in version 5.16.10.
  • Allow non-VDI users to request permission to record locally
    While a VDI participant cannot record a meeting locally, an issue has been corrected where a request from a non-VDI participant to record locally was blocked. Non-VDI participants can request and be given permission to record locally.
  • Compatibility change for older plugins and local device selections
    In 5.16.10, a feature was added to save the user's device selections on the thin client. When connecting to an older plugin, changes have been made to use the previous logic to select the default device. This change was also made in EP Release 5.17.13.
  • Changes for Enhanced Multi-Share Mode
    Enhanced Multi-Share Mode is disabled for the VDI Zoom Meeting client, but changes have been made to support a VDI Zoom Meeting client as a participant in a meeting where the host uses Enhanced Multi-Share Mode.
  • Share session blocked by invisible window
    An issue where users were not seeing the share session has been addressed by adding the ability to find and account for invisible windows owned by other applications. Customers must work with engineering to add a registry entry for Zoom to account for any application with an invisible window. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Correction when moving a window in dual screen mode
    A problem has been fixed for an issue that occurred when dragging or resizing a greenroom video window, CCI video window, a second active video window, or a second share window in dual-screen mode, where the window would flash to another screen. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Incorrect IP Address displayed for VDI Plugin
    Dashboard reports have been corrected to filter out invalid network IP addresses. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Share session frame rates
    VDI share sessions default to a frame rate of 5 FPS. A recent change (5.17.5 and 5.17.10) resulted in a higher frame rate being applied. The issue has been corrected and frame rates are correctly limited to 5 FPS or less. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.12.
  • Update the calendar client if the time zone is changed
    A problem has been corrected where changing the time zone while Zoom is running was not applying the update to the calendar client and the original time zone was still used.
  • Clean up cosmetic issues related to dialog/popup shadows
    Some dialogs and popups had a dark black border that had been removed to clean up the look. The problem was traced to release 5.17.6.
• macOS fixes
  • Mute/unmute AirPods
    Two issues were addressed related to AirPods and mute/unmute functionality. One issue was toggling the Sync headset checkbox off and back on, which would lose the ability to mute and unmute AirPods. Another change was made to wait for the VDI Plugin connection before sending the commands to sync. The changes only affect the use of AirPods with Zoom Phone.
  • Share audio no longer working after Citrix Workspace update
    An update for the macOS release of the Citrix Workspace application added a new feature to support multiple audio devices. Unfortunately, the solution to share audio during a presentation requires a virtual audio driver that was affected by the change. To address the issue in this release, the Citrix feature is disabled when installing the plugin for macOS.
  • Page controls when using a minimized video window
    Minimizing a meeting with enough participants to require providing buttons to select different pages was found to have an issue where an extra click was required before the control was displayed. The page buttons are now displayed when switching to a minimized view.

  • Screenshot optimization for 4K monitors
    A timeout was increased to account for the additional time required to process and transmit a screenshot when using a higher-resolution 4K monitor.
  • Transparent annotation toolbar
    An issue happened when setting the qt render mode to "basic" and using the qt transparent window at the same time The problem was reported in 5.17.13.
  • Network disconnect and reconnect failure
    A problem has been fixed where disconnecting and reconnecting using a LAN cable could fail and the client would exit when reconnecting to the Azure virtual desktop. This change was also made in EP Release 5.17.13.
  • Video tracking lost when returning to Webinar Backstage
    An issue was found when a panelist joined a webinar and moved from backstage to the live webinar area, and then backstage again. On the return to the webinar backstage, the video was unresponsive when the user adjusted the window size or position.
  • Audio device selection not saved
    An issue has been fixed where an audio device selection, changed in the Audio settings pane, was not saved when restarting the client. The problem was from a change made in 5.17.5. This change was also made in EP Release 5.17.13.
  • Device unresponsive when video rendering increases
    An issue was reported where thin clients could become unresponsive due to a combination of factors resulting in a significant increase in the processing required for video rendering.
  • Missing HID Support for Thinpro7
    A change was made for the Linux Universal installer to correct an issue where the zoommedia_hid.rules file was not installed for ThinPro7. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Circular annotation not displayed on edge of shared content
    If a shared screen was put into windowed mode and resized there was a condition that has been corrected where the tooltip for the circular annotation tool would no longer be displayed when moved to the edge of the window. The problem was reported in 5.15.10.
  • Clean up video artifact for eLux viewing share session
    When viewing a share session in a side-by-side gallery view using an eLux plugin, entering or exiting full-screen mode could result in a video artifact from the participant video being displayed on top of the share session. The issue was introduced in version 5.14.0.
• VMware fixes
  • Video lost after restarting Horizon with Linux
    An issue for Linux has been corrected where the user started a meeting with video on, restarted VMware Horizon during the meeting, and the next meeting had no video. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Incorrect video alignment when moving between monitors
    A fix was made to address an issue when resizing and moving windows from one monitor to another could result in the video no longer aligning with the window. The problem could also occur when going in and out of full-screen mode. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Clean up older 32-bit files after updating both Zoom and Horizon to 64-bit
    After installing the 64-bit version of the VMware Horizon client followed by the 64-bit Universal Installer for Windows, the update of the 64-bit Zoom VDI Plugin did not remove all of the older 32-bit files. The installer has been updated to check for installations in the older 32-bit path and remove any remaining files for the older plugin.

  • Installation change for AWS PCoIP
    The installer has been modified to skip the installation of the Teradici VChan DLL when installing for Amazon Workspaces using PCoIP to avoid some connectivity issues that could result. This change was also made in EP release 5.17.13.
  • Remove older extension when updating from 32-bit to 64-bit
    The zWspExtension.exe was not removed when updating from the 32-bit VDI Zoom Meeting client to the 64-bit release. The issue has been corrected in this release.

    When using two monitors and going into full-screen mode for the HP Anyware client, an issue was found where the video preview displayed in the Video Settings dialog was not hidden if the HP Anyware client was minimized.
  • Reconnect to VDI Plugin after a session takeover
    Changes were made to account for a condition where the VDI Plugin would not connect if the same account used a new computer to "take over" a virtual desktop that was still connected to another computer they had been using for the same desktop.
  • Terminate VDI Plugin process when closing HP Anyware
    Closing the HP Anyware desktop session window was not ending the VDI Process which could result in audio still being transmitted. The VDI Plugin process is now terminated when the virtual desktop is closed.

    Changes have been made to address an issue where the video was not displayed correctly for an HP Anyware desktop configuration using two monitors. This fix was also released in EP release 5.17.11.

    In the Statistic dialog, the Zoom Phone tab has a line to display the thin client IP and port used during an active call. The information was missing from the previous release and is now displayed when using a ChromeOS VDI plugin.

ChromeOS VDI plugin

The VDI Chrome plugin does not support all the features that the others do. If you use both a standard VDI plugin and the ChromeOS plugin, please note that there are some features that do not work.     Customers using Zoom Contact Center with a virtual desktop deployment can utilize video optimization through the VDI plugin with this release. This version of the VDI Zoom meeting client and VDI plugin are required for the new optimization.

    A new notification is displayed when Zoom detects a volume level at the start of a call that is likely too low, with a Turn up volume option to easily increase the volume.

    The VDI client supports DSCP marking for QoS tagging. Additionally, RTCP and RTP packets are transmitted using the same channel. This feature must be enabled by Zoom.

Changes to existing features

• End of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8
  Zoom is ending support for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Future releases will no longer prompt the user to update if they are running on either of those platforms.
• End-of-support for VDI clients on 32-bit devices
  With the 5.17.10 release, currently scheduled for March 2024, this will be the last version to support VDI clients on 32-bit devices. VDI plugins will not yet be affected, but end-of-support for VDI plugins is planned for much later in 2024, although no exact date has been set yet. Lower VDI client versions will be unaffected and continue to support 32-bit devices until they succumb to a future quarterly lifecycle enforcement.
• End-of-support for VDI on Ubuntu 16
  With the upcoming 5.17.10 release, currently scheduled for March 2024, Zoom will be ending support for Ubuntu version 16. Devices still running Ubuntu 16 will need to update to a higher Ubuntu version, or otherwise will have version 5.17.10 (or a later EP of this branch) as the last available version for install or update.

  • ChromeOS VDI optimization for Citrix Workspace
    Admins can configure managed ChromeOS devices through the Google Admin console to provide VDI optimization with Citrix virtual desktops. VDI Plugins are provisioned to the Chromebook by adding a policy for the managed device. Learn more about configuring Zoom VDI for ChromeOS.
  • WSP for Amazon Workspaces
    This release adds support for WorkSpaces Streaming Protocol (WSP) for Amazon WorkSpaces, and NICE DCV protocol for Amazon AppStream (Desktop View) and any other remote desktop product that uses NICE DCV. Both client and VDI Plugin must be updated for VDI optimization to work with the WSP or NICE DCV. Learn more about configuring WSP.
  • VDI Plugin Management application for Windows
    With this release, a separate application is installed by default for the Windows VDI Plugin Management package. Installation of the application is enabled by default when installing the latest VDI Plugin, but it can also be downloaded and installed separately from the VDI Plugin Management page.
  • Plugin Management opt-out policy
    Admins can choose to provide an option for users to stop being prompted for available VDI Plugin updates. Both the VDI client and VDI Plugin Management will need to be updated before enabling the EnableVDIPluginAutoUpdateOptOut policy, which will modify the VDI Plugin update dialog with an Opt Out option, which disables VDI Plugin update notifications. These notifications can be re-enabled through the VDI Plugin Management application. Learn more about using the Opt Out policy for VDI Plugin Management.
  • VDI policy options for Zoom Device Management
    For customers adding virtual desktops to Zoom Device Management, VDI-specific policies have been added to ZDM. Refer to the VDI section of the ZDM article for more information about what is supported and the requirements for VDI. This feature is dependent on a backend server update, currently scheduled for March 22, 2024.
  • Alternate storage location for VDI client updates through ZDM
    Admins using Zoom Device Management can configure an alternate location to download and install Zoom Meeting client updates for VDI.
• Meeting/webinar features
  • Dual Screen mode
    The Use dual monitors option under General settings has been implemented for VDI. Enabling this option will show participants' video and screen shared content on separate screens for thin clients that can support the feature. Note: There are known issues related to annotation with multi-share, which vary slightly by platform and are already being investigated for a resolution.
  • Join from room auto-proximity detection
    The option to connect to a nearby Zoom Room using auto-proximity detection has been added to the VDI plugin. Users in a Zoom Room with a personal device running the VDI plugin will be able to use the Join from room option to detect and connect to the Zoom Room.   • Annotation toolbar updates
    Updates made for the annotation toolbar on the 5.16.0 standard client release have been enabled on the VDI client and will be available when connecting to the VDI client with a VDI plugin version 5.17.10 or higher.

    An issue was found where a participant's video was not being re-enabled if they were using an avatar for their video and then locked-and-unlocked their thin client during a meeting. This issue was reported in version 5.12.0.

    Firewall rules for required ports are now included in the Universal Plugin installer to address warnings that could be displayed when running Zoom after the installation.
  • Hide download progress during VDI Plugin update
    The download progress indication displayed when users clicked the Later option to install a VDI Plugin update is no longer displayed by default.

  • When 32-bit is not supported auto update to 64-bit
    Currently, the VDI client auto upgrade will only update a 32-bit VDI Zoom Meeting client to the latest 32-bit release. As the 32-bit client package will be retired in 2024, when the 32-bit version of the VDI Zoom Meeting client is no longer available, auto-update will install the 64-bit version.
  • VDI Plugin Management for macOS now an application with an uninstaller
    A dedicated installer and uninstaller for Zoom VDI Plugin Management.app is installed and available in the Applications/Zoom VDI Plugin Management folder. The Zoom VDI Plugin Management.app can be accessed through the macOS Launchpad.

  Installation packages for Ubuntu, CentOS and HP ThinPro are provided as a single installation package that can install plugins for all supported platforms (Citrix, VMware, and AVD). The packages have been renamed with "universal" as part of the package name to indicate the change, for example: zoomvdi-universal-plugin-ubuntu_5.xx.xx.deb. To be consistent, the package for iGel has also been renamed from zoommediaplugin-igel_5.xx.xx.zip to zoomvdi-universal-plugin-igel_5.xx.xx.zip. These packages also provide support for FIPS mode.
• Enhanced zooming for screen share disabled for VDI
  A recent enhancement that allows users to zoom in and out of a screen share session using their mouse has been disabled, as the functionality requires additional work to be supported for VDI.

    VDI Plugin Management supports updating the VDI plugin without prompting for admin credentials during the update process, although admin credentials are needed for the initial install of the supported VDI plugin. After installing a version that provides admin credentials, users who are not logged into their Mac computer with admin credentials are only prompted to install the plugin. Downloading and installing the plugin are handled without additional prompts.
  • Virtual background support for AMD R2314G
    Zoom is adding support for thin client devices with an AMD R2314G processor, such as the HP T655, allowing these devices to display a virtual background with the Zoom VDI Plugin.
  • Support for HP Anyware with Windows Universal installer
    With this version, the universal installer for Windows includes support for the HP Anyware platform.
  • One additional Zoom Meeting installer
    Zoom provides an additional MSI package (64-bit only) for the VDI Zoom Meeting client that includes Webview. The addition is for customers that need to install Webview for all users in deployments such as a server hosting multiple virtual desktops. This change will reduce startup time when users launch a Zoom App for the first time by installing the Webview package for all users.
  • Volume Control Changes for eLux
    Customers can now change their eLux configuration such that any volume changes made using Zoom's controls will only change the volume for the Zoom application. In the Features section of the ZoomMedia.ini file, add the line LOGIC_SPEAKER_VOLUME=1 to change the behavior.
  • Policy controls to force .DLL signature check from virtual desktop
    To address issues where the Zoom VDI process was not starting quickly, the signature check for .DLL files within the VDI Plugin installation path has been disabled. For customers that would prefer to continue using the signature check at startup, a policy has been added to force the signature checks on the VDI plugin client. The policy is PluginDLLSignatureCheck, and a value of (0) will skip the signature checks in the install path, whereas entering a value of (1) will force the signature check.
  • Additional check to qualify Zoom Mesh Nodes
    To improve Zoom Mesh Node selection, an additional check using RTT has been added to avoid creating nodes between devices that can be physically located far apart when on a virtual network created using VPN.

    When using the policy to enable screen captures for VDI, configured by the DisableScreenshotOptimization policy set as 0, the feature can also be used during Zoom Webinars. Please note that screen captures are now always saved as files since pasting into chat is not supported for Webinar chat.

    An issue was reported when a Zoom Room was using the multi-stream Smart Gallery view; the individual Zoom Room participants were not consistently following the Zoom Room's mute/unmute status. This has been fixed for VDI plugins with this release. The issue was reported in version 5.14.0.

    An issue was reported where a share session could be delayed has been addressed by changing how data loss is handled when forwarding to the VDI plugin. The issue was reported in version 5.15.3.

    An issue was reported where video was occasionally not displayed for participants, and was found to be related to poor network conditions. Changes include offloading logic for the plugin to address the issue. The issue was reported in version 5.15.3.

    To better adapt to weaker networks, each parent device is limited to a maximum bandwidth, which, when exceeded by child devices, triggers the parent device to connect to no additional child devices. For ethernet connections, the maximum bandwidth is 60 MBPS, and 15 MBPS for wifi connections. This has no effect on the setting for maximum bandwidth per attendee.
  • Zoom Phone Support for TCP/WSS Transport
    In regions where UDP media is blocked, TCP/WSS connections are supported as a transport.

  • Support for Zoom Timer app
    VDI clients support use of the Zoom-created Timer app in both meetings and webinars. The support for VDI Plugins is limited to display of the count-down timer only. The count-down clock is not displayed on top of the participants' video during a meeting.
  • Support for personalized speech denoise audio profile
    To provide the best audio quality possible for Zoom Meetings in busy environments, users can configure Personalized Denoise in the client audio settings directly, which will capture and analyze a clip of your audio from meetings to differentiate your voice from and suppress background noise in meetings. Zoom does not receive or retain this clip or analysis, which stays on your device and is only used for noise suppression in meetings you join. This was previously disabled on VDI clients until proper implementation could be achieved.

    VDI plugins support Webinar Breakout Rooms, both in optimized and fallback modes. Previously, Webinar Breakout Rooms were not supported for VDI plugins.

    An issue was found where an unspecified log level or value other than 4 prevented VDI Plugin Management from uninstalling a plugin when a downgrade was required.   • Potential crash issue when VDI plugin version and VDI Plugin Management version differed
    An issue was found to cause potential crashes when the version of the VDI Plugin and the version of VDI Plugin Management were different. The issue was found in version 5.13.0.

    An issue was resolved regarding unexpected gray borders within a meeting when dark mode was selected for the client.

  • Update Live Streaming status for Facebook
    An issue was reported where a VDI user began live streaming a meeting to Facebook and the notification was not appropriately updated. This issue was reported in version 5.12.7.
  • Incorrect Mute status when using "See myself as active speaker"
    An issue was reported when using the feature to include yourself as an active speaker, it was possible for your mute status to become incorrect if you unmuted while someone else was the active speaker and then you became the active speaker again. This issue was found in version 5.15.10.
  • Audio/video out of sync on Dell ThinOS devices
    An issue was reported where a participant's audio and video gradually become more and more out of sync. This was caused by a 28 ms discrepancy in tick calculations by the processor, resulting in an increasingly more noticeable sync issue. This issue only affected Dell ThinOS devices and was reported in version 5.14.10.
  • Shared content flickers when dragged by mouse
    An issue was reported where shared content would flicker when the user dragged the shared content with their mouse. This issue was reported in version 5.15.11, but affects all previous Linux plugins.
  • Stuck Citrix toolbar during screen sharing
    An issue was reported where the Citrix toolbar would become covered by the offloaded Zoom video. This issue was reported in version 5.15.5, but affects all previous Linux plugins.
  • Shared screen not centered for zoomed views at 150%
    An issue was reported when viewing a shared screen with the zoom set for 150% and then reduced to a lesser zoom, such as 100%, the view was not properly centering the shared content. This issue was found in version 5.15.10.

Changes to existing features

• In-meeting request/self-enablement of Meeting Summary and AI Companion
  Meeting participants can potentially request the Meeting Summary or AI Companion features be enabled while in a meeting, even with the associated web setting disabled. If the host is an admin, the host can immediately enable this feature for the current meeting and associated web setting. If the host is not an admin, an email request will be sent by Zoom to account admins for their consideration on whether to enable it. Additionally, admins can control the visibility of these in-meeting enablement options through web settings.
• Personalized speech denoise disabled
  Support for the new personalized speech denoise audio profile has been disabled. This feature captures and analyzes a clip of your audio from meetings to better differentiate your voice from and suppress background noise. This feature will be considered for a future update.

New and enhanced features

• Webinar Backstage support
  The webinar host and other panelists can move between the backstage area, which is not visible or heard by attendees, and the live webinar area, which is visible to and heard by attendees. Panelists backstage can still hear and view the live webinar to keep an eye on the presentation and know when to rejoin. This feature requires VDI client/plugin version 5.15.10 or greater and the host to have a Zoom Events license.
  Note: There is a known issue where older clients will join for only a brief period of time before being automatically dropped.
• Ask AI Companion questions about the meeting 
  Zoom's AI Companion transcribes and analyzes the verbal discussions in Zoom Meetings, allowing participants to ask the AI Companion questions about the meeting content that has been discussed and receive a response based on the meeting analysis thus far. Admins can choose to have this option still visible in the meeting toolbar, even when the feature is disabled in web settings.
• Support for smart virtual background with AMD Ryzen Embedded V1202B Chipset
  Support has been added to automatically enable virtual backgrounds for devices using the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1202B chipset.
• Zoom Mesh support for VDI-plugin child-connections
  Zoom accounts utilizing Zoom VDI infrastructure can fully benefit from Zoom Mesh, as the VDI plugins can now connect to any Mesh Parent device, both standard client or VDI Plugin, as Mesh Children, alleviating extra strain on the network.
• Proxy support for VDI Plugin Management for Windows
  VDI Plugin Management can use system proxy settings to download new installer packages. Previously, downloads over proxy connections were not supported.
• Support for multiple simultaneous virtual desktops for AVD Plugin
  The AVD/Windows 365 VDI plugin is enhanced to support more than one virtual desktop connection. Previously, multiple sessions were not supported.

  • Screenshot option to capture during meetings from VDI Plugin
    VDI users can capture a screenshot from the thin client, including video from the meeting and offloaded share sessions. This capability is disabled by default and can be enabled by adding the DisableScreenshotOptimization DWORD registry key to the \VDI path with the assigned value of "0" . For users with in-meeting chat enabled, using the screenshot in chat will capture on the thin client and send the image to the virtual desktop. For users with in-meeting chat disabled, users can click the Zoom icon in the Windows system tray and select Screenshot from the menu.
