Deploying the Zoom Meetings Hybrid service

Zoom’s Hybrid Meeting service solution allows customers to deploy Zoom meeting components into their network (behind their firewall), with internal users connecting to a local hybrid server while external users join via the Zoom Cloud.

Using Zoom Node, organizations can deploy hybrid services on their Zoom Node servers necessary to host hybrid servers. Once deployed the Hybrid Meeting service can be enabled account wide or at the group level for Licensed users.

With the increased number of services available in Zoom Meeting Hybrid (ZMH) and Zoom Recording Hybrid (ZRH), Zoom is clarifying and enforcing the following license accounting rules: The system counts instances of the Hybrid Multimedia Router, Speech, and Web Access Gateway as use of the Zoom Meetings Hybrid license while supporting services such as load balancers, web servers and streamers, and zone controllers do not. Additionally, each instance of the Meeting Recorder, Meeting Archiver service, and Hybrid Transfer Service counts as a use of a Zoom Recording Hybrid license.

Initial configuration for the Zoom Meetings Hybrid service

To deploy a Hybrid Multimedia router (HMMR) or Zone Controller Proxy, a Zoom Node server needs to be deployed first, as well as a configured meeting zone.  

Setting up a Meeting Zone

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Node Management, then click Modules.
  3. Click the drop-down button , and click Meetings Hybrid.
  4. On the Nodes tab, click Meeting Zones.
  5. Click Add Meeting Zone.
  6. Under Zone Name, enter the name of the meeting zone.
  7. Under Zoom Hybrid Data Center, select the Zoom data center the Zone will connect to. 
  8. Click Confirm.

How to deploy a Hybrid Zone Controller Proxy

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Node Management, then click Modules.
  3. Click the drop-down button , and click Meetings Hybrid.
  4. On the Services tab, click Add Services.
  5. Click Hybrid Zone Controller Proxy. 
  6. Under Install on a node, select the server you want to deploy the service on. 
  7. Under Meeting Zone, select the zone the service will be deployed for.
  8. Under Certificate settings, set how the certificates will be managed:
  9. Under Internal IP, enter the internal IP configured for the service.
  10. (Optional) Under the SSL port, enter the port number you want the listening service to run through; by default, the port is 443.
  11. (Optional) Under Add external IP to allow external users join meetings, enable the following settings:
  12. Click Add.
    The Hybrid Zone Controller Proxy component will begin the installation. Once complete, the Hybrid Zone Controller Proxy service status will be Running.
  13. Now proceed to install the Hybrid Multimedia Router component. 

How to deploy a Hybrid Multimedia Router

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Node Management then click Modules.
  3. Click the drop-down button , and click Meetings Hybrid.
  4. On the Services tab, click Add Services.
  5. Click Hybrid Multimedia Router.
  6. Under Install on a node, select the server you want to deploy the service on. 
  7. Under Meeting Zone, select the zone the service will be deployed for.
  8. Under Certificate settings set how the certificates will be managed:
  9. (Optional) Next to Internal domain, enter the prefix if Zoom is generating the certificate. 
  10. Under Internal IP, enter the internal IP configured for the service.
  11. (Optional) Under UDP Port, configure the UDP port for the service (the default is 8801).
  12. (Optional) Under SSL Port, configure the UDP port for the service (the default is 443).
  13. (Optional) Under Advanced Settings, the following settings can be set:

    The Hybrid Multimedia Router component will begin the installation. Once complete, the Hybrid Multimedia Router service status will be Running.
