Making Zoom Events video calls


In addition to chatting with other event attendees during an event, you can also communicate with your connections through video calls during and post-event.

Note: For access to the latest Zoom Events and Webinar features, we strongly recommend hosts to update to the latest version of the Zoom desktop client/mobile application.

How to initiate video calls from 1:1 chat

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. Access the 1:1 chat with a user you are already connected with.
  3. In the bottom-left of the chat box, click the camera icon .
    Note: If you initiate the call from a web browser and you have the desktop or mobile Zoom client installed, the client will open and you will make the video call from the Zoom client. If you do not have the desktop or mobile Zoom client installed, you will be prompted to install the client. If you decline to install the client, you will proceed to make the video call from the web browser.

How to initiate video calls during an event

You can only video call a user you are already connected with. If you are not connected with a user, you will need to connect with the user before you can video call them.

To initiate a video call from a user's Profile Card while you are in an event:

  1. Join a Zoom Event.
  2. In the event's lobby chat, hover your mouse over the profile picture of the user you want to video call.
    The user's Profile Card will pop open.
  3. In the lower right-hand corner of the Profile Card, click the floating camera icon .
    Note: If you initiate the call from a web browser and you have the desktop or mobile Zoom client installed, the client will open and you will make the video call from the Zoom client. If you do not have the desktop or mobile Zoom client installed, you will be prompted to install the client. If you decline to install the client, you will proceed to make the video call from the web browser.

How to initiate video calls from your list of connections

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. Access your list of connections.
  3. Hover your mouse over the profile picture of the connection you want to video call.
    The user's Profile Card will appear.
  4. In the bottom-right corner of the Profile Card, click the floating camera icon .
    Note: If you initiate the call from a web browser and you have the desktop or mobile Zoom client installed, the client will open and you will make the video call from the Zoom client. If you do not have the desktop or mobile Zoom client installed, you will be prompted to install the client. If you decline to install the client, you will proceed to make the video call from the web browser.

How to schedule a video call

You can schedule video calls with Zoom Events users you are already connected with so that video calls can be coordinated and are not always made ad hoc.

Schedule video calls in a 1:1 chat

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. Access the 1:1 chat with a user you are already connected with.
  3. At the bottom of the chat window, click the calendar icon .
    A calendar will appear.
  4. In the calendar, select the date and time you want to schedule the video call.
  5. In the lower-right corner of the calendar, click the checkmark icon .
    The calendar will close and the user's profile card will appear. A calendar icon will show on the profile card, displaying that a video call has been scheduled.
    Note: The calendar icon does not mean the recipient has accepted the scheduled request, it only means you have scheduled a video call with the user.

The recipient will receive an invitation email, from where they can accept or reject the video call invitation. If the invitee rejects the video call that you scheduled, the scheduled call will be removed from the inviter's calendar.

Schedule video calls from an event lobby or lobby chat

  1. Join a Zoom Event.
  2. In the event's lobby chat, hover your mouse over the profile picture of the user you want to video call.
    The user's Profile Card will appear.
  3. To the right of the user's Profile Card, click the floating calendar icon .
    A calendar will appear.
  4. In the calendar, select the date and time you want to schedule the video call.
  5. In the lower-right corner of the calendar, click the checkmark icon .
    The calendar will close and the user's profile card will appear. A calendar icon will show on the profile card, displaying that a video call has been scheduled.
    Note: The calendar icon does not mean the recipient has accepted the scheduled request, it only means you have scheduled a video call with the user.

The recipient will receive an invitation email, from where they can accept or reject the video call invitation. If the invitee rejects the video call that you scheduled, the scheduled call will be removed from the inviter's calendar.
