As of September 18, 2023, the Zoom PWA has been renamed the Zoom Web App. Additionally, scheduled Web App releases will occur every quarter’s first and third months. Web App hotfixes and patches will continue to be released as needed.

Users can install the remote control executable for the Zoom Web App with just one click, much like installing the Zoom Meetings client. Once installed, the remote control feature will automatically join the session, reducing the number of clicks needed. Users joining meetings from MTR or Google Meet hardware devices can now experience a streamlined meeting experience. The system automatically dismisses various notices, including recording consent, meeting summary, AI companion, archiving consent, live-streaming consent, save-able captions consent, and general meeting/webinar disclaimers, after displaying them for three seconds. This enhancement eliminates the need for users to manually dismiss these messages, providing a seamless and uninterrupted meeting flow.

- Install Remote Control App as a standard user
Users can install the Remote Control app without administrative privileges. When the app needs to perform an operation requiring elevated permissions, it will prompt for administrative credentials. This approach ensures a smoother installation process while still providing necessary access for specific tasks. The app's messaging has been updated to reflect these changes throughout its lifecycle.

- Notify users about outdated browser versions
Users with outdated browser versions will receive notifications to update their browsers, ensuring they achieve optimal performance and access to all features. A persistent banner message will be displayed, stating, "Please upgrade your browser for the best experience." - Notify users of disabled graphic acceleration
Users will be alerted if their graphic acceleration setting is disabled. They will see a message prompting them to enable graphic acceleration, accompanied by the instruction "Please enable the option Use graphics/hardware acceleration when available in the browser's system settings for a better meeting experience." This improvement ensures that users are aware of potential performance issues linked to graphic acceleration settings. This feature will not be immediately available, as it is dependent on a backend release, currently scheduled for June 24, 2024. - Introducing QR code login for Zoom on Tesla
Users can now pair their Tesla with their phone by scanning a QR code, enabling them to log into the Zoom app on their Tesla without manually entering credentials. After pairing, users are automatically logged into their Zoom account on the Tesla's display, showing their home page. This QR code login method eliminates the need for typing usernames and passwords, providing a more convenient and user-friendly experience when accessing Zoom on Tesla vehicles.

- Remove the Mask feature for Meetings
Users will receive a message if their system cannot load the Virtual Background. The message will state, "Failed to enable Virtual Background. Your video has been turned off." This update simplifies the user experience by removing the confusing Mask feature and providing clearer communication when the Virtual Background cannot be loaded. Previously, the Web App would prompt users to "Enable Mask," which displayed only a small visible area of the user's face while masking the rest of the screen. - Enhanced reporting for third-party devices joining through Zoom Web App
Account owners and admins can now view more granular information about the devices used by participants joining Zoom meetings through the Zoom Web App (ZWA). The meeting reports now distinguish between browser web clients, Microsoft Teams Room devices (Windows and Android), Google Meet Hardware devices, and Zoom for Tesla. This enhancement provides greater visibility into the types of devices leveraging the ZWA to attend Zoom meetings hosted by the account. - Full-screen experience for Zoom app in Tesla
Users have an option to maximize the Zoom app on Tesla. When in full-screen mode, the Zoom controls take over, allowing users to control the meeting without Tesla's interface. The Zoom meeting is controlled with these meeting controls. This feature provides parity with other platforms and enhances the user experience. - Improved Join Before Host experience
Meeting participants joining from a mobile browser will be notified with an audible ding when the host starts a meeting if they have navigated to a different app and put the browser in the background.

Attendees can now join webinars directly through their mobile browser, but with limited capabilities. They can engage in chat during the webinar. This improvement offers a quick and easy way for attendees to participate without needing to download the app.

Users have greater control of the product tabs shown on the Zoom Web App, having greater flexibility over display order and which product tabs are always visible or hidden within the More option. Additionally, a General tab is added to the Settings window, where users can adjust the display order of the product tabs.

The in-meeting experience is updated with new icons and other visual changes to menus and toolbars. - Exclude hosts and panelists from survey participation
A new web setting can prevent individuals with hosting roles from participating in surveys, streamlining the administration process and ensuring more accurate and unbiased feedback from participants. This includes the host, co-host, and webinar panelists. - Resized Q&A panel for webinars and meetings
To enhance user experience and consistency across platforms, the Q&A panel on the Zoom Web App can be resized, mirroring the functionality found in the desktop client. This improvement is applicable to both meetings and webinars. - Collapse Q&A responses
Users can quickly scan through Q&A responses and comments without feeling overwhelmed by a long list. By limiting the number of visible responses to two (unless manually expanded by the user), the display becomes less cluttered, enhancing readability and making it easier for users to focus on the content. - Enhanced Q&A viewing experience
A new Q&A viewing experience will be introduced, allowing users to interact with specific questions without being automatically redirected due to frequent rearrangement triggered by upvotes. Additionally, the logic for reordering the list of questions has been modified to enhance the user experience. The list will automatically sort by the number of upvotes in the following scenarios:
- Opening the panel: When a user loads the Q&A panel by clicking the toolbar button, and the Upvote option is already selected.
- Changing the order by option: When a user switches from "Most Recent" to "Most Upvotes," the sorting will be triggered automatically upon window refresh.
- Manual refresh: Users can manually force a refresh by clicking the refresh button at the top of the window.
- Memory usage statistics
Users on supported browsers can open the Statistics tab of the settings window and view memory usage information. This is only available when connected to a meeting or webinar.

- Support HDMI sources for Zoom on Google Meet devices
Users can share content directly from their computer through an HDMI connection into a Zoom Meeting being conducted on a Google Meet device. - Support for expanded remote control settings regarding external participants
The Zoom Web App supports recent changes to web settings to control the use of the remote control feature when external participants are present, which includes preventing guests from controlling other guests’ screens and preventing internal users from controlling a guest's screen. - Support for auto-move to/from Waiting Room
Admins have additional Waiting Room customization options, allowing them to automatically move participants to the Waiting Room if the host or alternative host leaves, as well as automatically admit those participants back into the meeting when the host or alternative host returns. The Web App better supports this feature with improved messages and notifications for participants being moved to/from the waiting room. - Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature in Zoom Web App
Zoom Web App users can now benefit from the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature. When users minimize a meeting, a small window remains open, enabling them to monitor participants and listen to audio while focusing on other tasks. This enhancement mirrors the functionality already present in the client, empowering users to multitask while staying engaged in their meetings.

- Full emoji suite support for Webinar Reactions
Similar to Meeting Reactions, Webinar Reactions are able to utilize the full suite of available emojis, in addition to the 6 standard emojis. Availability of all emojis versus the standard set can be controlled at the account, group, and user level settings page. - Removed email field for webinars not collecting emails
For webinars not collecting attendees’ email addresses, meaning registration is not required and the Include email address in attendee report setting is disabled, attendees joining the session will no longer be prompted to enter an email address. - Customized waiting room for Webinars
Hosts and account admins can customize the waiting room experience for webinars, allowing customization of the image, text, and other waiting room assets that attendees see before joining each session and providing a more engaging and branded joining experience for attendees. These custom assets can be saved to webinar templates for reuse. Additionally, hosts can also view the number of attendees waiting to join while the webinar is in practice mode, allowing them to decide when it is the best time to end practice mode and allow attendees into the webinar. This feature will be rolling out to accounts over the next months.

- Obfuscate sensitive data during a call
Account owners and admins can conceal sensitive data during calls by implementing the Obfuscate sensitive data during a call setting at the account, site, group, and user levels. When enabled, users pressing a dial pad key on the screen or keyboard during a call will mute the client DTMF tones, displaying asterisks instead of the actual numbers for enhanced security.
- Zoom Contact Center features
- Remote Control for Zoom Contact Center supporting UAC prompts
Agents can control the User Account Control (UAC) prompt that may be displayed by Windows during a web remote control session. Agent interactions include viewing and entering their admin username and password to successfully execute their support operations. Additionally, Zoom Contact Center allows you to set configuration policies for the remote control app to help enhance access security. - Zoom Apps support within Zoom Contact Center
Agents using Zoom Contact Center through the Zoom Web App can access relevant Zoom Apps to more efficiently access other apps during the interaction and resolve issues quicker. The Zoom Web App's display and switching rules for Zoom Apps, such as orientation, sizing, pop-out, and landscape, follow those of the desktop client. Additionally, data and user interface synchronization between the Zoom Web App and desktop client is now simultaneous on both platforms. Previously, Zoom Apps were only accessible within the Zoom Contact Center desktop client experience.

The in-meeting controls for starting a cloud recording are updated to make a clearer distinction between starting a normal cloud recording and starting a cloud recording with Zoom Revenue Accelerator analytics. This requires the user to have a Zoom Revenue Accelerator license.

- New features for emergency calls
Users can now access their keypad while performing an emergency phone call to add participants to the call. Up to 10 participants can be added to a call in progress. The emergency call can also be added to a regular call that is in progress. The features are available on certified desk phones, mobile and PWA clients, and Zoom Phone Appliances.
- Zoom Contact Center features
- Remote Control for Zoom Contact Center
Zoom Contact Center agents can use the remote control app through the Zoom Web App to remotely control an end user's computer. This enables agents to see the end user's screen while also doing remote control actions at the same time. Consumers will be required to install an app and grant the agent permission to start the remote control session, which will be available on the Zoom Download page.

- Enable participants to join breakout room on mobile web browsers
Participants can join breakout rooms when using the mobile web browser. This feature comes with the following capabilities:
- Notification and request to join: When breakout rooms are open, users on the mobile browser client will receive a notification and a request to join a breakout room. They can choose to join immediately or have the option to join at a later time.
- Retaining option to join: Participants who do not immediately join a breakout room will retain the option to join at a later time.
- Consistent messaging: All relevant breakout room messages, including in-product messages, will apply to participants in the mobile browser client.
- Leaving breakout rooms: Participants in the mobile browser client can leave breakout rooms in the same manner as the desktop client.
- Basic features in breakout rooms: Breakout rooms in the mobile browser client will offer basic video meeting capability, allowing participants to engage with others in the room.
- Added info toast when microphone and speaker are changed
A pop-up notification will be displayed upon any changes to microphone and speaker settings in both the mobile and desktop clients. - Quick access to the device test in footer bar
ZWA users can quickly test their speaker and microphone from the footer bar, enhancing the user experience. - Smart Recording in AI Companion feature set
Additional enhancements are being implemented for the Smart Recording feature to ensure its seamless integration into the AI Companion feature suite. Users can now receive notifications for Smart Recording in the web client. - Mute speech notification
When audio is muted and you attempt to speak into the microphone simultaneously, the UI will display a "You are muted" notification. The UI will automatically close when you unmute.
- Team Chat features
- Enhanced external labeling
The external labeling is enhanced with the addition of an 'external' label in the left panel of Team Chat for direct messages with external users. These enhancements ensure better visibility of external participants in chats and channels.
Phone features
- Phone features
- Support for advanced encryption for voicemails
Once advanced encryption for Zoom Phone voicemail is enabled, voicemail messages are received and recorded by Zoom servers which encrypt them with keys only known to their intended recipients’ devices. If admins enable the Escrow feature within advanced encryption for voicemails, admins will now be able to access these keys and users voicemails. Shared Line Appearance, Shared Line Group, Call Queue, or Auto Receptionist voicemail are not supported. Additionally, functionalities like email to voicemail, transcriptions, and the ability to check voicemails through dialing or the web are disabled when this feature is enabled. To utilize this feature, users must have a Power Pack license.

CAPTCHA security checks will be added to the join flow to suppress bots from joining meetings and webinars through the web client. The CAPTCHA security checks will only be displayed to users who join and are not signed-in. Users who are signed-in will not see the CAPTCHA screen during the join process. Account admins can control this through the Zoom web portal.

- PWA users on the mobile web browser can submit problem reports, similar to problem reports can be submitted through the Zoom mobile app. This can aid Zoom Support in troubleshooting issues encountered while using the Zoom PWA through the mobile web browser.

- Support for continuous meeting chat on PWA
- Meeting hosts can schedule a meeting and invite contacts, who are added to both the calendar event for the meeting and the dedicated Team Chat group chat. This group chat and its messages are accessible by members before, during, and after the scheduled meeting.

- Enhancements to Team Chat for PWA
Apart from the ability to directly access Zoom Team Chat from the PWA, users can benefit from the following new features:
- Sharing files from third party cloud storage: Users can effortlessly share files directly from their preferred third party cloud storage services, enhancing productivity and file management within the team chat.
- Storing chat channels and group messages on third party storage: Users can now choose to store their chat channels and group messages on third party storage solutions. This ensures that all essential conversations are preserved and easily accessible.
- Smart Meeting summary: The new smart meeting summary feature automatically captures and highlights key takeaways from meetings, making it easier to review and follow up on action items.
- Additions to the More Actions menu: Users can now utilize the whiteboard for collaborative brainstorming sessions, access pinned history for quick reference, and explore other options that enhance the overall team chat experience.
- Code snippet: Users can send bits of code, configuration files, or log files in direct messages or group conversations.
- Calling in one-on-one chat: Users can initiate a Zoom Phone call using the phone icon from the header in a 1:1 chat.

- Show meeting controls setting
The Always show meeting control setting will be permanently available in the client, regardless of whether it is enabled or disabled in the web portal. The web setting will no longer be used to control the availability of this feature in the client, and users will not be able to toggle it on or off through the web portal. Previously, the state of the web setting directly controlled the visibility of the corresponding client setting.

Hosts can sort the order of video tiles in Gallery view, choosing from options including sorting by first name (ascending and descending), last name (ascending and descending) and meeting entry time (ascending and descending). This feature must be enabled for use by an admin in web settings. - Transfer meetings between Zoom app and PWA
Seamlessly transition meetings between the Zoom app (desktop client or mobile app) and the PWA. Transferring a webinar is only available for the host of the webinar, while transferring a meeting only requires the meeting to appear on your list of upcoming meetings, even if you are not the host. - Noise suppression support
The PWA supports similar noise suppression as used by the desktop client.
Note: Unlike the desktop client, the PWA's noise suppression will only be fully on or off.

- Persistent audio when joining breakout sessions
When participants move between the main session and a breakout room, their audio connection is maintained. Previously, participants were required to connect to audio again, even if already connected in the main session. - New join flow for Zoom Meetings
The process of joining a meeting is enhanced to consolidate user inputs and the video preview screen into a single screen. Users will be able to enter their information, such as display name and password, and simultaneously preview their video and test their audio. For signed-in users, their display name will be auto-filled from their Zoom profile, while join links with the passcode embedded will have the passcode field auto-filled, making the join flow more seamless and user-friendly.

Zoom Whiteboard can be accessed while in a meeting, as well as outside of a meeting, when utilizing the PWA.

Seamlessly transition meetings between the Zoom app (desktop client or mobile app) and the PWA. Transferring a webinar is only available for the host of the webinar, while transferring a meeting only requires the meeting to appear on your list of upcoming meetings, even if you are not the host.

Apart from the ability to directly access Zoom Team Chat from the PWA, users can now benefit from enhanced features such as:
- Existing Group Chats: When starting a new chat, users can see existing group chats that match the exact members you entered. They can select an existing group chat and jump right into the chat, rather than duplicating an existing group chat.
- External Contacts and Contact Requests: Users can add external contacts to their group chats and channels, as well as send invite requests when adding a contact to a channel or sending a chat message. Contact requests can be pinned to the left sidebar through PWA settings for easy access.
- Channel Settings: Additional channel settings available on the desktop and mobile apps have been added to restrict who can add members, as well as support for multiple channel admins.
- Additional User Settings: Users can choose to show link previews, change your status to away when inactive, and block users through PWA settings. Blocked users cannot be added to a channel or receive a chat message from you.

When users launch or join a meeting or webinar, or log in to their account through the web portal, desktop client, or mobile app, admins can display a customized disclaimer, which users must accept the disclaimer to join, start, or sign in to the session. This has been enhanced so that admins can apply this to user groups. Previously, disclaimers could only be triggered for all internal or all external participants. - Support for HID devices
The PWA can support audio controls through USB-connected HID devices.

- Optimize for video clip support on web client
When sharing video content through the web client, the Optimize for video clip option can be enabled to improve frame rate and reduce audio lag. Higher frame rate improves synchronization of shared audio and video content. This option may reduce resolution and frame rate of other video participants to save CPU load.

- Creation and editing of polls directly in a meeting
Hosts and co-hosts can create, edit, and delete polls during a meeting. Previously, creating and editing a poll launched the web portal, for changes to be made there. - Support for Q&A in meetings
Hosts can enable the Q&A feature in meetings to allow participants to ask questions, which can be viewed by all, but only answered by the host and co-host. Questions can be submitted anonymously, and responses can be sent publicly for all to see or privately to just the sender. Hosts can also mark submitted questions as something that will be answered live, so participants are aware and can expect their answer to follow soon. - Enhanced formatting for in-meeting chat
In-meeting chat is being enhanced to support more advanced forms of messaging, including in-line image previews, rich text formatting, screenshots, threaded replies, reacting to messages with emojis, and message quoting. Messages can also be deleted after being sent.

This allows the meeting host to assign participants as sign language interpreters, who can interpret one language into sign language in real-time. The host can assign interpreters when scheduling or during the meeting. The host must be a Licensed user on a Business, Education, or Enterprise account, or Pro account with the Zoom Webinars add-on plan.

Web client users can upload their own background for use with the masking feature in addition to the standard backgrounds provided by Zoom. The chosen background is persistent between sessions. Backgrounds uploaded by admins through the web portal are also available for use. - Poll access for alternative hosts
If meeting hosts add alternative hosts to their meeting, they can allow alternative hosts to add or edit polls. The alternative host in the meeting will have the additional in-meeting options to add or edit a poll, which launches the web portal to make the changes.

If the host has the Google or Outlook calendar integration configured, Zoom will display a list of others invited to the meeting but not yet in attendance, allowing for quick checks if everyone is in attendance yet. Their invite response (Accepted, Declined, Maybe) is listed with their name and the host can easily invite them to the meeting from the participants panel. This feature can be enabled for use in meetings at the Account-, Group-, and User-level web settings, and will initially be available only for free users as part of a beta. - Share screen to all Breakout Rooms
When sharing screen in the main session, the host or co-host can share their screen to all active Breakout Rooms. Any active sharing in the breakout sessions are interrupted and any annotation or whiteboarding prompts the sharer to save them before viewing the shared screen from the host. Host and participants must be using the web client or Zoom app version 5.7.0 or higher to utilize and see this feature.

When participants join a meeting that is already being recorded and/or live streamed, they will join with their video off and muted until they consent to the recording prompt. After consenting, they will be able to unmute and turn on their video, if the host allows them to. This brings the web client into parity with the desktop and mobile clients. - Support for additional reaction skin tones
Users can choose from more skin tones for their reactions, such as Raise Hand.

In focus mode, only the host can see participants’ videos or profile pictures when video is off. Additionally, participant’s screen sharing can only be viewed by the host, who can switch between multiple shared screens and optionally allow participants to view others’ shared screens.

Introducing the Zoom PWA
The Zoom PWA (Progressive Web App) is a new, more powerful version of the Zoom web client. This PWA, intended as a replacement for our ChromeOS app as we reach the final year of support for all ChromeOS apps, mirrors all of the same features currently available for the ChromeOS app, yet allows for more functionality planned for later this year.
