Zoom error code -1
Issue
Users may intermittently encounter Error Code: -1 when:
- Attempting to sign in to the Zoom app on Android devices or the desktop Windows app.
- Attempting to start a meeting from the desktop app, but it is not appearing even though it’s visible in the Zoom web portal.
This error blocks access to the Zoom application and prevents starting any meetings.
Environment
- Zoom Workplace desktop app for Windows.
- Zoom Workplace mobile app for Android.
Cause
The error may have been caused by one or more of the following factors:
- Session corruption: Active sessions or cached credentials on devices became corrupted, causing sign-in failures
- Multiple simultaneous sessions: Active sessions across different devices or browsers conflicted
- Corrupted local data: Cache files and configuration data on client devices
- Windows-specific issues: Corrupted registry entries from previous Zoom installations
Resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve Error Code: -1 and restore access to the Zoom app. These steps address corrupted session data, conflicting active sessions, and damaged local files that may prevent successful authentication.
Sign out of all active sessions
Signing out of all sessions clears any corrupted or conflicting login sessions associated with your account.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- Click Profile.
- Under Where you're logged in, click Sign Out of All Sessions.
This will terminate all active sessions associated with your account across all devices and browsers. - Open the Zoom app and sign in again.
Reinstall the Zoom app if the issue persists
If the issue continues after signing out of all sessions, reinstalling the application can remove corrupted local cache files or stored credentials.
- Uninstall the Zoom app from your Android or Windows device.
- Reinstall the latest Zoom Workplace app from the Download Center.
- Launch the Zoom app and sign in again.
(Optional) Use the CleanZoom app for complete removal on Windows computers
For Windows devices, standard uninstallation may not remove all Zoom-related files.
Notes:
- The CleanZoom app will completely remove residual files, registry entries, cached data, and cryptographic keys. Ensure backup keys or account escrow are enabled before running the tool to prevent permanent data loss.
- The Clean Zoom Tool removes the Zoom desktop client and Outlook plugin but does not affect browser extensions or other Zoom integrations.
- Download the CleanZoom app from your computer.
- Run the app on your Windows computer.
This will remove the Zoom desktop client, Outlook plugin, configuration files, local app settings, and cryptographic keys. - Restart your computer after the process completes.
- Install the latest version of Zoom Workplace desktop app for Windows from the Download Center.
- Sign in again.
