End of support for Zoom Rooms for Mac on macOS 10.11 and 10.12

Zoom strives to provide frictionless and secure video communications empowering people to accomplish more. As part of our commitments to quality and security, Zoom Rooms for Mac version 5.16.5 is the final version that will support Apple macOS 10.11 and 10.12, and these versions of macOS are no longer supported by Zoom Rooms for Mac.

Apple devices running Apple macOS 10.11 and 10.12 will be unable to upgrade to or install Zoom Rooms for Mac after version 5.16.5.  There are no exceptions possible.  However, most devices that are capable of running macOS 10.11 and 10.12 can be upgraded to at least macOS 10.13.  Zoom recommends upgrading to the latest possible version of macOS that supports your Mac hardware.

The end of Zoom Rooms for Mac support for macOS 10.11 and 10.12 most strongly affects the following Mac models commonly used for Zoom Rooms, which cannot upgrade to at least macOS 10.13:

Background

Since Apple XCode 14.0, Xcode no longer supports building applications for macOS releases older than mac 10.13.  Zoom must use newer versions of XCode to support the latest macOS software versions, therefore, new Zoom Rooms application releases will no longer support macOS 10.11 and 10.12 starting with Zoom Rooms 5.17.0.

Zoom Rooms for Mac 5.16.5 Release Timeline

Zoom released Zoom Rooms for Mac 5.16.5 in November, 2023.

How can I check the macOS version of my deployed Mac devices?

Customers may verify the current macOS version of devices in their Zoom Rooms in the Zoom admin portal by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. Click Device Management then Device List.
  3. Change the filter All Platform OS to macOS.
  4. Review devices, including Platform OS, Device Name and Zoom Room Assignment. Any device with a Platform OS less than 10.13 should be upgraded to the latest available version of macOS.  If the device cannot upgrade to at least macOS 10.13, it will be unable to upgrade to versions of Zoom Rooms for Mac greater than 5.16.5.
  5. (Optional) Click Export to export a list of devices to CSV for further processing.

How can I check if I have a Mac mini that cannot upgrade to macOS 10.13 or greater?

See Identify your Mac mini model on Apple’s support website and compare the hardware model to the list of hardware models in the table above.

What does this mean for Macs that cannot upgrade past macOS 10.12?  Can I continue to use Zoom Rooms for Mac version 5.16.5 on my Mac?

The aforementioned Mac mini models will be unable to upgrade to macOS greater than 10.12, and therefore will be blocked from installing Zoom Rooms for Mac updates after 5.16.5.  They may continue to use Zoom Rooms for Mac 5.16.5.

Zoom Rooms for Mac version 5.16.5, the last version offering support for iOS 10.11 and 10.12, will eventually reach the end of support according to the Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy.  The forecast date for end of support is November, 2024 (subject to change).  After this date (subject to change), Zoom Rooms for Mac version 5.16.5 and earlier will stop operating and show a notification message instructing the administrator to transition to an alternative hardware platform supported by Zoom Rooms for Mac app as soon as possible.
